With its eclectic and widely acclaimed downtown district, Forest Park has been dubbed the "Wicker Park of the Western Suburbs." Once known as a blue collar community, Forest Park has experienced a renaissance of sorts over the past decade. Highlighting the village's growth has been its ability to attract a slew of trendy restaurants and boutiques, as well as many young families and professionals, who take advantage of the village's proximity to downtown Chicago. Additionally, the village benefits from two CTA train stops, two entrance/exits ramps along the Eisenhower Expressway (Interstate 290), and a Metra train stop in neighboring Oak Park.
